- Photography - landscape and quirky close ups of nature, architecture, design

- Walking - in rural England and Wales, with camera at the ready
- Tennis (mostly from an armchair at home or in the stands at events)
- Public speaking (from armchair, pulpit or podium)
- The 1950s and 1960s - music, fashion, lifestyle
- Observing and pondering 20th and 21st century society and culture
- Voluntary work, especially Riding for the Disabled
- Listening to the radio - Radio 2, 4 or 5 at home, Classic FM in the car, Test Match Special anywhere anytime
- Watching old films (from the comfort of an armchair) Hitchcock… Steve McQueen… plus good old TV drama (The West Wing, English period dramas)
