About Me

Day-dreaming has been a hobby since childhood. Lying on the grass and looking at the sky I saw legions of armies, shapes of countries, animals and birds in the clouds… On the swing with a book I was transported to treasure islands, joined in adventures at boarding school, laughed at Jeeves and Wooster… In the early 1960s I imagined myself on the high seas on a pirate radio ship as I listened on my little transistor to Buddy Holly, The Shadows, Elvis…

The best bits about secondary school were gazing out of the window, or listening to tennis from Wimbledon during Maths lessons - with a hand over my ear to hide the ear piece that was attached to a radio in my desk. A high boredom threshold meant finding the shortest possible secretarial course on offer and then changing jobs every couple of years or so.

A brilliant, liberal English teacher at school let me indulge in plenty of creative writing with no rules attached - which suited me very well. Finding rules and convention tedious, I was pleased to work with people in London who, through choice or circumstance, lived on the edges of society… The streets of London, a teaching hospital, a church office, a primary school, a café, a nursing home, being a wife, mother and grandmother… This casserole of delights has provided a wonderful mix of sights, texture, colour and taste to enhance my life, shape my world view and fuel my writing.

I owe a huge thank you to all the people who, often unknowingly, have made me think, shared conversation, laughed with me, and been interesting and supportive companions through life's adventure. An integral part of the adventure is the companionship I have en route with God who helps, cajoles, encourages and provides purpose for the journey.
